Amelia’s rounded belly bore testament to the new life growing within her, and she felt a blend of excitement and serenity that only motherhood could bring. With a gentle laugh, Lily lent her a helping hand as they made their way to the stables.
“You really should take it slow, Amelia,” Lily advised, her voice full of sisterly concern.
Amelia smiled, patting her swollen belly. “I know, I know. But I can’t just sit around all day, Lily. There’s too much life happening around here.”
As they reached the paddock, Amelia’s eyes were drawn to Luke. He was attempting, with his usual stubborn determination, to tame Thunder’s spirited offspring, a wild mare named Stormy. Despite his best efforts, Stormy bucked and twisted, her wild energy barely contained. Amelia couldn’t help but laugh softly.
“He’ll never give up, will he?”
Lily grinned. “He’s as stubborn as they come. But that’s why we love him.”
Just then, Jacob appeared, his easygoing nature evident in his relaxed stride. He joined in the laughter, shaking his head at Luke’s efforts.
“You know, Luke, if anyone can tame that mare, it’s you. But I have to say, it’s quite entertaining watching you try.”
Luke shot them a playful glare. “Oh, you think this is funny, do you? Why don’t you come over here and give it a try, Jacob?”
Jacob chuckled. “Nah, I’m good right here, thank you very much.”
Amelia’s laughter mingled with the sound of children’s giggles, drawing her attention to Ma and the little ones gathered around her. Benjamin, now a rambunctious four-year-old, and their first daughter, Rosie, along with Lily’s daughter, Daisy, sat in a circle, their faces aglow with anticipation as Ma weaved a tale of adventure and wonder.
“And then, the brave knight faced the dragon, sword in hand,” Ma said, her voice animated as she painted a vivid picture with her words. The children’s eyes were wide with excitement, hanging on to every word.
Clint’s gruff voice cut through the air, his concern for the mare evident as he approached. “Luke, you know Amelia would do a better job with that horse even in her condition,” he chided, though his eyes twinkled with amusement.
Luke wiped the sweat from his brow, a grin breaking across his face.
“You’re probably right, Clint. But I’ve got to give it my best shot.”
Amelia’s heart swelled with love and contentment as she watched the scene unfold. Life on the ranch was a dream, a haven of peace and happiness amidst the trials of the past. With Garrett and his gang behind bars, the specter of danger had faded into the distance, replaced by a sense of security and tranquility.
Amelia gently touched the trinket around her neck, a silent tribute to her dear friend Sarah. The warmth of the afternoon sun bathed the ranch, and as the laughter of children and the soothing rhythm of life surrounded her, Amelia’s heart swelled with gratitude for the blessings that filled her days. She looked around, her gaze lingering on each member of her family, feeling a profound sense of peace and fulfillment.
As the sun climbed higher in the sky, the ranch buzzed with activity. Luke, with a renewed determination, finally managed to coax Stormy into a more relaxed state. He turned to Amelia, his face flushed but triumphant.
“I think we’re making progress here,” he called out.
Amelia clapped her hands, beaming with pride. “I never doubted you for a second, Luke.”
Clint gave a nod of approval. “You’ve got the touch, Luke. Just needed a bit of patience, that’s all.”
“Patience I have,” Luke replied with a wink toward Amelia. “Learned it from the best.”
Amelia’s heart fluttered. The love between them had only grown stronger over the years, solidified by the trials they had overcome and the joys they had shared. She felt a gentle kick from within and placed a hand on her belly, a serene smile spreading across her face.
“This little one seems eager to join the fun,” she said softly.
Lily placed a hand on Amelia’s shoulder. “You’re going to be a wonderful mother to this one, just like you are to Benjamin and Rosie.”
“Thank you, Lily. And you’re doing an amazing job with Daisy. Our kids are so lucky to have this family,” Amelia said, her voice filled with gratitude.
As the children’s laughter filled the air, Ma wrapped up her story, much to their delight.
“And that’s how the brave knight saved the kingdom,” she concluded, earning a round of applause from her young audience.
“Ma, you always know the best stories,” Benjamin said, his eyes shining with admiration.
Ma chuckled. “Well, I’ve had plenty of practice, haven’t I?”
The children scattered, running off to play in the fields, their joyous shouts echoing across the ranch. Amelia watched them with a contented sigh.
“They’re growing up so fast,” she remarked to Lily.
“They are,” Lily agreed. “It’s like they were babies just yesterday.”
Jacob sauntered over, wiping his hands on a rag.
“Speaking of growing up fast, have you seen how much Daisy loves the horses? She’s going to be a natural rider, just like her mom.”
Lily’s eyes sparkled with pride. “She does have a way with them, doesn’t she?”
Amelia smiled, feeling the baby move again. “I wonder if this little one will love horses as much as the rest of the family.”
“I’m sure of it,” Luke said, joining her and placing a hand on her belly. “Our children have horses in their blood.”
Clint leaned against the fence, watching the family with a soft expression.
“You all have built something real special here,” he said gruffly. “A real family. It’s good to see.”
“Thanks, Clint,” Luke said, his voice sincere. “We couldn’t have done it without all of you.”
Amelia nodded, her eyes misting with emotion.
“This ranch, this family, it’s everything I ever dreamed of and more. Sarah would have loved it here.”
“She’s here in spirit,” Ma said gently, placing a comforting hand on Amelia’s shoulder. “She’d be so proud of you.”
As the afternoon sun bathed the ranch in a golden glow, Amelia felt a deep sense of peace. Surrounded by the laughter of children, the camaraderie of friends, and the love of her family, she knew she was exactly where she was meant to be.
The children played in the fields, their laughter mingling with the soft neighs of the horses. Amelia and Lily sat on the porch, enjoying the gentle breeze and the sight of their growing families.
Amelia rested a hand on her belly, feeling the baby’s movements. “Do you remember how nervous we were when we first arrived here?” she asked Lily.
Lily chuckled.
“Oh, I remember. Everything felt so uncertain back then. But look at us now. We’ve built a life here, a beautiful one.”
Amelia nodded, her eyes following Benjamin as he helped Rosie and Daisy build a little fort with sticks and stones.
“It’s amazing how much has changed in just a few years. This ranch has become a real home.”
Luke and Jacob approached, their work with the horses done for the day. Luke’s face lit up when he saw Amelia.
“How are you feeling, love?”
“Good,” Amelia replied, smiling up at him. “Just watching our little adventurers at work.”
Jacob laughed. “They’ve got quite the imagination. I bet they’ll have that fort built before dinner.”
“Speaking of dinner,” Ma called from the kitchen doorway, “it’s about time we start getting things ready. Who’s up for some help?”
“I’ll help,” Lily offered, rising from her seat. “Come on, Amelia. Let’s get you inside where it’s cooler.”
Amelia shook her head.
“No, I want to stay out here a bit longer. It’s too beautiful a day to miss.”
“Alright,” Lily said with a smile. “But call if you need anything.”
As the sun began to dip toward the horizon, casting a warm glow over the ranch, Clint walked over to join them.
“You folks sure know how to make a man feel like part of the family,” he said, a rare smile softening his usually stern features.
“You are part of the family, Clint,” Luke said, clapping him on the back. “We’re all in this together.”
Clint nodded, his gaze thoughtful. “It’s good to have people you can count on. Makes all the difference in the world.”
Amelia’s eyes wandered to the fields, where the children were now racing, their laughter a joyful symphony. “We’ve come a long way,” she said softly. “And we have so much to be thankful for.”
“We sure do,” Luke agreed, taking her hand in his. “And there’s so much more to look forward to.”
The moment was perfect, a snapshot of peace and contentment that Amelia wished could last forever. But life on the ranch was always moving, always changing, and she cherished each precious second.
As the children’s games wound down and the adults gathered on the porch, the evening air was filled with the aroma of a hearty meal being prepared in the kitchen. The sense of community, of family, was palpable. Everyone had a place, a role to play, and the harmony of their lives together was a testament to the strength of their bonds.
Amelia leaned against Luke, feeling the warmth of his body and the steady beat of his heart. “This is everything I ever wanted,” she whispered.
Luke kissed the top of her head. “And it’s just the beginning, Amelia. We’ve got a whole future ahead of us, full of love and adventure.”
In the fading light, surrounded by the people she loved most in the world, Amelia felt a deep and abiding peace. She knew that whatever challenges lay ahead, they would face them together, as a family. And that was all she could ever ask for.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky with hues of pink and orange, the family gathered around the large wooden table on the porch for dinner. The aroma of roasted meats, fresh bread, and seasoned vegetables filled the air, a testament to Ma’s culinary skills.
Ma clapped her hands, drawing everyone’s attention.
“Alright, everyone, take your seats. Let’s enjoy this meal together.”
Luke helped Amelia into her chair, his hand lingering on her shoulder.
“You doing okay?”
“I’m perfect,” she replied, her eyes shining with contentment.
The children scrambled to their seats, their faces flushed with excitement from the day’s activities. Benjamin, Rosie, and Daisy chattered animatedly about their fort, each trying to claim credit for its construction.
Jacob raised his glass, a warm smile spreading across his face.
“To family and friends,” he toasted. “May we always have days as good as this.”
“To family and friends,” everyone echoed, clinking glasses and mugs.
As the meal progressed, the conversation flowed easily, filled with laughter and stories. Clint shared a particularly amusing tale from his younger days, earning hearty laughs from everyone at the table. “And that’s why you never try to outsmart a mule,” he concluded, shaking his head.
Amelia leaned back, savoring the moment. The flickering candlelight cast a soft glow on the faces around her, illuminating the love and camaraderie that bound them together. She felt the baby move and smiled, placing a hand on her belly. This child would be born into a world of love, surrounded by people who would cherish and protect it.
After dinner, the children pleaded for one more story before bed. Ma, never one to disappoint, gathered them around and launched into another of her enchanting tales. Amelia watched, her heart full as she saw the wonder and delight on their faces.
Luke slipped his arm around her, drawing her close. “You seem deep in thought,” he murmured.
“I’m just counting my blessings,” Amelia replied, resting her head on his shoulder. “We’ve come through so much, and look where we are now. It’s almost like a dream.”
Luke kissed her forehead.
“It’s real, Amelia. And it’s all because of you.”
Tears pricked at her eyes, but they were tears of joy.
“It’s because of all of us. This family, this ranch, it’s a team effort.”
As Ma finished her story and the children were tucked into bed, the adults lingered on the porch, savoring the cool night air. Stars began to twinkle in the vast expanse above, and a gentle breeze rustled the leaves of the nearby trees.
“Look at that sky,” Lily said softly, her eyes reflecting the starlight. “It’s breathtaking.”
Amelia nodded.
“It’s like a promise, isn’t it? A reminder that there’s so much beauty in the world.”
Luke squeezed her hand.
“And we get to be a part of it, every single day.”
The night grew quieter, the sounds of the ranch settling into a peaceful lull. Amelia’s heart swelled with gratitude as she reflected on their journey. They had faced trials and tribulations, but they had come through stronger and more united than ever.
As they finally headed inside, Luke paused, holding Amelia back for a moment. “You know,” he said, his voice tender, “I’ve been thinking about names for the baby.”
“Oh?” Amelia’s eyes sparkled with curiosity. “And what names have you come up with?”
Luke smiled, a glint of mischief in his eyes. “I was thinking maybe Sarah, if it’s a girl. To honor your friend and my sister.”
Amelia’s breath caught, tears welling up.
“Oh, Luke, that’s perfect. Sarah would love that.”
“And if it’s a boy?” she asked, her voice trembling with emotion.
“Then we’ll find a name that’s just as meaningful,” Luke said, his hand resting on her belly. “But no matter what, this child will know they’re loved and cherished.”
Amelia kissed him softly, a silent thank you for everything he had given her. They walked inside together, ready to face whatever the future held, knowing that with love and family by their side, they could overcome anything.
In the warmth of their home, surrounded by the laughter and love of those they held dear, Amelia knew that they had found their forever. And that was a blessing beyond measure.

A very good story about love and family and friends Well written and entertaining characters
Thank you so much for the support and feedback dear! 🥰 I truly appreciate it!
This story is a trilling page turner. Exposes the cut throat business of horse racing.
Question is Thunder a name change from Storm introduced in main story as well-tempered thoroughbred that Amelia was able to calm?
Thank you for your writing.

Wondered how Clint came to be included at the ranch at the end and what happened to Janet?
Thanks so much for the kind words! I’m thrilled you enjoyed the story. As for Clint, his inclusion at the ranch is a hint at future possibilities and growth for him. Janet’s story is left open-ended, inviting readers to imagine her next chapter.
I loved The Baby’s Cry book. It was intriguing to see how Amelia escaped from Boston with baby Ben and found the ranch in Texas with his uncle. Luke and Amelia found a shared bond with the horses. It was a story that was different from most due to the horse racing element. Don’t get me going about Garrett. It was a wonderful book.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I’m thrilled you enjoyed Amelia and Ben’s journey, and I’m glad the horse racing element stood out for you. Your feedback means a lot!
An awesome book. It held my interest throughout which I can’t say for some authors. Will definitely read more of your books.

Luke and Amelia, a couple who goes from negative to positive caring, while dealing with the death of Luke’s sister and trying to train race horses while raising Ben. The amount of difference and hostility between the various owners and trainers keeps everyone on their feet with anxiety over whether the races will be fair. Ben’s father uses the cover of this to try to get Ben. Read as an ARC and thoroughly enjoyed this novel
Thank you so much for reading and for your thoughtful feedback! I’m glad you enjoyed the story and felt the tension between the characters and their challenges. Your support means a lot!
I, too, loved this story. It surely kept my attention. I am hoping to read more about romances for Ma and Janet.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I’m thrilled you enjoyed the story.
Very sweet story filled with a lot of pain also. Truth and justice prevailed for Amelia, Sarah and little Ben. Love grows as Luke and Jacob learn there is more to life than just horses.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful feedback! I’m glad the journey of Amelia, Sarah, Ben, Luke, and Jacob resonated with you. It’s heartening to hear that the themes of truth, justice, and love came through in their stories.
It was a very enjoyable story. I really liked the characters and the storyline. One technical thing that I would like to mention is that in horse anatomy, people do not refer to horses having ankles. They have hocks, fetlocks, and stifles. Injuries can occur in so many different parts of the horses’ leg anatomy, it is just easier to say that there is fear of an injury.
Thank you so much for your feedback! I’m glad you enjoyed the story and the characters. I appreciate the correction about horse anatomy; I’ll definitely keep that in mind for future revisions. Thanks for helping me improve!
Really enjoyed reading your books . You always have good characters .
